I’m coming back!

Time to get back at the retail side of my business! Next week I plan to start listing pieces again. I have so much stock… it’s time to get some of it out of here!

I’m also going to bring back Glass Guess… so stay tuned! See you the week of 10/17!!

2009 Cabin Retreat

Hillman's Cabin

Another Cabin Retreat is in the books! That makes six retreats in the last five years.  It is so fun gathering people from all over the country for a weekend of sharing, bead making and demos.

I’ve come home with several fun projects to work on. We played with PMC this year and I can see so many different things I can do to incorporate pieces into my work. And I can’t wait to get my torch hooked back up so I can work on some abstract, tentacle looking beads to put into a necklace for a wedding I’m going to in a few weeks!

Ready to torch
I’ll be back with pictures of my projects soon…

I’m alive!

I’ve just been busy with some things and avoiding others… Can you tell I’ve been in a bit of a slump? But spring is coming and that means I can start using my favorite colors again. I’m hoping to get myself out to the studio by the end of the week and begin playing with some of those bright, happy colors. I’ll keep you posted! 😉

Time to go back to Etsy!

Hi there! It’s about time I got back into the blogging groove. I’ve been in a bit of a funk lately so posting hasn’t been at the top of my daily list… obviously! 😉 But I’m back at the torch and having fun so here we go.

Nancy Sells Puffer Brightly Focal Lampwork Bead

Looks like Etsy is the place to be these days so I’m going to head back over and give it another try. I’ve had a store there for awhile now but stopped stocking it because I wasn’t getting much traffic. I think I gave up a little too soon. With all their new bells and whistles, I can’t wait to try again! So check in often as I hope to add items weekly.

WM Bead Expo Sneak Peek

As promised…. here’s a couple pictures of some of the beads I’ll have at the West Michigan Bead Expo. I’ve been addicted to making hollows lately so there will be quite a few of these at my booth next week. Now to figure out how to display them!

In case you’re wondering what to do with them, here’s a simple necklace I made with a few….

I’ve also been developing a new style of beads to use with the Lake Superior stones I collected this past summer. They’re moving me in new and fun directions. I’ll have some of the jewelry I’ve been making with them at the show. But in the meantime, here are some stone dot disc focals that have morphed out of playing with my new style……

I can’t believe it’s only a week away! Time to get back out to the torch. I sure hope you can come see us at our booth… be sure to say hi!

Brenna Sells Beads!

In my last post, I promised to preview some of the beads and jewelry I’ll have at the West Michigan Bead Expo on October 6. But first I want to introduce you to the newest…. and probably youngest bead maker at this year’s show.

Brenna Sells Beads Close Up

My daughter, Brenna, has been making beads off and on for the last couple of years. She’s had the opportunity to learn from some of the best bead makers around at the Cabin Retreat I host every spring. I think her favorite mentor, Ms. Sheryl Booger, comes through in her sculptural beads.

I promised Brenna, when her beads were good enough to sell, that I’d share a piece of my booth with her. She’s been hard at work creating faces and masks over the last few months and I think she’s ready for her debut this year. So… of course…. she decided she needed to come up with a name to put on her business cards! It didn’t take her long to come up with Brenna Sells Beads. How fun is that?! (Proud mama here)

Be sure to stop by and visit us at our booth (#17) on October 6. I’ll be the taller one with the big grin on my face! 😉

Back to reality…

I’m back from my week at camp! Someone recently described the Gathering as summer camp for beadmakers and I think she’s right. It’s a chance to catch up with old friends, meet new ones and watch demo’s that inspire you. You also get to see beautiful beads up close and personal at the Bead Bazaar and choose from countless tools and glass in the vendor area.

If I had to choose my favorite part of the week though, it would be spending time with my friends. Most of us only see each other once a year, but it doesn’t feel like it. And I’m pretty sure I laugh more with them than with anyone else I know.. We may be spread out all over the country but they live right around the corner in my heart.

This year we added my husband Dave to the crew. I had a feeling he’d fit right in and he did! Now he understands why I get so excited before I leave and why I’m a bit sad when I come home… The good news is that we’re going to try staying in touch more throughout the year. Several of us are even going to try text messaging ~ that should be interesting!

If you’re a beadmaker and haven’t been able to make it to a Gathering yet, start saving today for next year in Oakland, CA. I know you won’t regret it!!!
