A New Style…

Nancy Sells Glass Hollow Nuggets

I’m feeling a new style coming on! One of the necklaces I made to wear at the ISGB Gathering got a lot of positive reaction this year. I like to make beads with Check Glass from my buddies John Hurlbert and Jan Burrows to show people just how cool their colors are. So I thought it would be fun to make beads with no surface decorations to showcase the fun, bright colors. But I wanted to do something different to make them more interesting. Hence my nugget style hollows! It’s fun to push the glass around and see how many facets I can get on one bead. I think I’ll be making more of these soon… 😉

Too Little Time…

Only a couple days till I leave for the ISGB Gathering in Miami. And I’m beginning to prioritize. I just might not have all new jewelry to wear this year!! 😮 But the pieces I’ve finished are pretty fun so I’m just going to have to live with it this time.

As I was saying in my last Watch Me Create post, I have a hard time fitting everything in during the summer. Living only 1/2 hour from Lake Michigan and owning a sailboat create diversions that are hard to ignore!

When I get home I need to start focusing on preparing for the St. James Court Art Show in Louisville and our own West Michigan Bead Expo. I’ll be back with sneak peeks at what I’m up to then…

Otherwise known as a work in progress! 😉 Here’s one I’ve been working on this week. I’ve been having a heck of a time getting the hollows to match up. Sometimes I can do them with my eyes closed… sometimes not! I got the idea for this color combination from the swimming suit I bought this spring. I swear I get some of my favorite jewelry ideas from the swimming suits I’ve had over the last few years!

Short and sweet today ~ I have work to do!

Checking in…

It’s been a busy week at the Puffer house! And my blog has suffered… I’m in jewelry mode at the moment getting new pieces ready to wear to the ISGB Gathering in a couple weeks. A girl just can’t wear the same thing every year!

I’ve also been getting beads made to put into earrings and pendants. It sure is a juggling act trying to balance making beads, creating jewelry and still enjoying summer! I’ve got myself so worked up that my heart has decided to skip a beat every once in awhile so I’m in the process of figuring out what’s causing THAT! My doctor’s best guess is that it’s just stress. But until I get some answers, that’s taking up a fair portion of my brain… It’s always something, isn’t it! 😉

Be back soon with a couple more Gathering ensembles…

Back to reality…

I’m back from my week at camp! Someone recently described the Gathering as summer camp for beadmakers and I think she’s right. It’s a chance to catch up with old friends, meet new ones and watch demo’s that inspire you. You also get to see beautiful beads up close and personal at the Bead Bazaar and choose from countless tools and glass in the vendor area.

If I had to choose my favorite part of the week though, it would be spending time with my friends. Most of us only see each other once a year, but it doesn’t feel like it. And I’m pretty sure I laugh more with them than with anyone else I know.. We may be spread out all over the country but they live right around the corner in my heart.

This year we added my husband Dave to the crew. I had a feeling he’d fit right in and he did! Now he understands why I get so excited before I leave and why I’m a bit sad when I come home… The good news is that we’re going to try staying in touch more throughout the year. Several of us are even going to try text messaging ~ that should be interesting!

If you’re a beadmaker and haven’t been able to make it to a Gathering yet, start saving today for next year in Oakland, CA. I know you won’t regret it!!!

Whoo-hoo! I’m off to the Gathering!!

I thought about making the title all cap’s so you’d “hear” my excitement… but that would be rude don’t you think? 😉 This is a big year for me. I’m the incoming East Central Regional Director for the ISGB and one of my necklaces is in the Metamorphosis Exhibit. Somebody pinch me… I’m finally getting where I want to be!

But even better… I get to spend almost an entire week with my bead buddies!! Lori has actually agreed to be my roomie again this year. And my husband Dave has worked out visiting a business contact in Minneapolis this week, so he’s going to be able to see what a Gathering is all about.. 😀

My camera is ready… the batteries are charged… my beads are packed….

…..I’ll see you later!!!

My friend…

For the fifth year, I’m counting down the days to the ISGB’s Gathering. I just finished an entry for Watch Me Create that will tell you all about it… you’ll be able to read that in a few days. But I have more to say…

I had no idea what I was getting into when I packed my bags and headed to Lowell, MA in 2003. I just knew I wanted to go meet the people I had been talking to on Wet Canvas and learn as much as I could about this wonderful art form. I came away with so much more.

Next week will mark the 4th anniversary of meeting Paula Canant. She has become one of my closest friends. I honestly can’t remember what my life was like before we met! Paula is truly one of a kind. She has crazy, curly red hair that matches her personality perfectly. Life is not dull when Paula’s around. Her Kentucky accent is so contagious that I know exactly who my family is talking to when they answer the phone.

Paula has a heart of gold and will do just about anything for a friend. She is generous to a fault. (Don’t tell her I told you though!) I was working on a hot head until I opened her Christmas gift a few years ago and there was a brand new Minor torch.

The first year of our friendship we managed to figure out ways to see each other every month, even though we’re separated by several states. We’ve had many adventures! Unfortunately we haven’t been able to keep up with the monthly visits, but we do talk to each other every day on the phone. Often, we have headphones on and talk for hours while sitting at our torches. Right now, she’s on vacation with her family in Mexico. I hate that I can’t pick up the phone and call her! But that’s why I thought this would be a good time to write about her. She’ll kill me when she reads this. 😉

I head off to the Gathering on Tuesday ~ unfortunately Paula’s not coming this year. But we will definitely be together in spirit (and cell phones). Happy anniversary buddy!
